The Shamian Church of Our Lady of Lourdes is located on the southern part of Shamian Island, surrounded by historical buildings which are under state protection. The church was built in the 16th year of the reign of Emperor Guang Xu (1890 AD). It covers an area of 839,75 square meters and can hold 200 people.

All the doors and windows of the Shamian Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Guangzhou, China are inlaid with colorful glass. On the south side of the church’s court-yard is a grotto with the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes.

76 years ago after World War II, I attended primary school here under the care of Catholic nuns at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Still today, it welcomes children, reminding of my childhood. Notice the statue of Jesus Christ and all those who grew up with me. So thankful to be alive in a hopeful world of God-given love and peace. Amen.
